5 twitter tips for food business #SME #caterers?

Many food businesses have started to use twitter to communicate with their customers, build brand awareness, share information/menu design ideas and promote their food products/catering food supplies. However when signing up to this network, businesses must remember they are making a commitment to be social, interact and to engage.

So here are a few useful tips to help make your social network works for you.

  • Customise your profile carefully –Be sure to add an introductory bio briefly explaining your business e.g. Rich Sauces is a B2B manufacturer who supplies catering food supply products such as wholesale mayonnaise to over 4000 businesses in 10 countries. Also be sure to use the right keywords in your biography – most members use various search engines to track down relevant people to follow so use search terms you think will be popular and ones relevant to your business e.g. wholesale sauces for us is a good one.
  • Who to follow? – While following Britney Spears may be entertaining with her celebrity revelations, it’s the people who can directly benefit your company that you want to be following. Be sure to follow likeminded people or organisations, these could be distributors of your product, industry experts, customers or influencers – all to create your online community.
  • Respond to others - Keep an eye out for particular issues you could help with by scanning tweets. If people recognise that you know what you're talking about and you're willing to offer bits of advice for free they are much more likely to do business with you.
  • Be human - Adding a human element to your tweets will build personality around your business - remember you don’t always have to talk about work and your products

  • Measure twitter – whichever which way you choose to use twitter be sure to measure your twitter activity. This may include using software for analysing or measuring how many people are following you in addition to how many retweets, mention and favourites you receive. As your account grows you will want to monitor how many referrers it brings to your website, does it lead to any sales or increase customer retention.
