According to The Oxford Companion of Food and Drink, the name thousand island dressing probably comes from the Thousand Islands between the United States and Canada in the St. Lawrence River. It is said that the sauce was first made by a fisherman’s wife to welcome him back to shore after an especially long fishing trip.

We love these stories and finding out the origin of the sauces we are now making in our own kitchen.  Our Thousand Island Sauce is based on our signature real mayonnaise and is one of our most popular products in our flavoured mayonnaise range.  It’s also one of the most versatile and can add a creamy and tangy edge to burgers, sandwiches and salads.  It’s also great used as a dip with chips or crudites and makes a refreshing change from ketchup or regular mayonnaise.
