Join The Great Coleslaw Revival - It’s All In The Recipe

Avid readers of the Rich Sauces blog will know how much we love to delve into the realms of time to find out the history behind popular foods we still enjoy today.  This week we are looking at that old favourite, Coleslaw.  Here comes the history bit!

The name coleslaw originates from a Dutch term ‘koolsla’ which means cabbage salad.  Over time, the name was Anglicised to Coleslaw, the side dish we know and love today.  Coleslaw, or slaw as it is often called in the US, is a simple but clever blend of shredded cabbage and carrot mixed together in a dressing.  Used as a side or a sandwich or burger filling it gives added bite and crunch combined with a moreish creamy taste.

As a well known dressings company, we have seen big changes in the quality of coleslaw over the years.  Most changes have not been for the better, unfortunately.  Competition has been fierce in the coleslaw world and this has led to manufacturing companies choosing cheap and inferior wholesale salad dressing and producing lacklustre, poor quality products.  You only have to open a tub of supermarket value coleslaw to see what we mean.  Watery, tasteless and uniformly cut coleslaw just isn’t good.

How To Make The World’s Best Coleslaw

When you think how cheap coleslaw is to produce (3 low cost ingredients!), there is no excuse for poor quality.  We believe the secret to world class coleslaw is in the cut of the vegetables (rough and natural) and the quality of the mayonnaise (Rich Sauces Real Mayonnaise of course!).  Our real mayonnaise is unbeatable when it comes to creamy consistency, taste and reputation.  When you put our World’s Best Coleslaw recipe against commercially manufactured brands, there is no comparison.

Why not book a free chef demonstration at our place or yours to find out more about the secret of amazing coleslaw?  You won’t believe the difference a high quality real mayonnaise can make.
